DIY 3.0

February 11th, 2012

I’m so excited for my newest upcoming collection, and version three of Dressed in Yellow. After last year’s collection, which I handmade from re-purposed fabrics, I knew I was going to have to try something different. The time it took to create even a micro-collection of 10 or so designs was so much that the retail prices on each piece was just too high. Since I do everything by hand, a price of a dress includes everything from drafting the pattern from scratch to sewing it. It was an unsustainable way to do it. I needed a year to rest after just making one season. Also, I never wanted to make fashion that was unaffordable, but here I was, pricing a hand-dyed dress at $700. (if you have 700 dollars lying around, by all means…)

So, I have devised a new business plan. It still involves re-purposed vintage fabrics, which is what I’ve decided is the only way to make truly green design. In fact, the entire collection is based around the fabric, as opposed to the design. DIY 3.0: Basic designs made in spectacular re-purposed fabrics at reasonable prices.

Stay tuned!
